School Information
Sargent Public Schools in located in Sargent, Nebraska which is located in the middle of the state along the edge of the Middle Loup river. Sargent is a small town, population of approximately 710 and is one of the older towns in the area dating back to 1884. Directly to the north and northwest of town is the beginning of Nebraska's famous Sandhills with abundant water and beautiful scenery. The economic base of the community is agricultural with very little industry. Because of that fact, the population has changed very little since 1900. The population base is basically Caucasian with a very small percentage of Hispanic and Asian.
The first school was started in 1880 and the present school District #84 was created in 1884 with 25 students. By 1915, the enrollment was at 215 and by the 1940's, the students numbered 340 with 15 teachers. Currently, for the 2003-04 school year, the school has 190 students enrolled. In 1967 several smaller school districts consolidated with Sargent #84 and a complete bus schedule was added. The district currently covers nearly 400 square miles.
We have 1 part-time administrator, 1 principal, 19 teachers, 1 media specialist, 1 Chapter teacher, 1 special education teacher (contracted with ESU10), 1 counselor, 1 speech pathologist (part-time contracted with ESU10), 1 technology coordinator, 1 bookkeeper/secretary, 1 office assistant, 1 Green Thumb worker, 4 teacher aides, 1 building/grounds/transportation supervisor, 2 building custodians, 4 food service workers, 3 bus drivers and 3 part-time nurses.
The ratio of certified teacher to student is 1 to 10. The average age of our teachers is 45 and the average years of teaching experience is 17. We have 2 teachers with Master Degrees, and 20 with Bachelor.
